Nelms Family in United States of America

Three of the children of James (1799), who was a son of Cook NELMS (1766) and Mary NORTH, immigrated to USA. Henry (1837) and Ann (1849) travelled to Ohio in Apr 1854 and James (1843) in May 1869. James and Henry lived for a while with Edward RADBONE in Wood and Washington Counties. They appeared in the 1870 census, living in Oregon Twp, Lucas Co, Ohio. Henry and James were living next door to Ann, who was staying with Thomas TOMPKIN and wife. TOMPKIN was also from Ickford, Bucks.

Henry was in an accident and died in 1876. He is buried in Forest Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio (next to Edward RADBONE (1801-1876) and his wife Rebekah NELMS (1802-1879) who was a sister of James Snr). James was married to Mary Jane THACHER in 1875. He built a homestead on Bayshore Rd along Maumee Bay in Oregon Twp. James applied for American citizenship and took his oath of allegiance on 20 Sep 1879. Henry and James both worked as farm labourers and family story has it that Ann did not like the US and returned to England about 1880.

James died in 1910 and Mary died in 1927. Their children were James III (1876-1902), Nellie Mary (1878-1923), William Henry (1880-1969) and Charles (1884-1982).
